Ahhh, A Slow News Week in Sunland-Tujunga!

Breaking News! Green Beans with Toasted Almonds Spotted in Sunland-Tujunga! -photo by Abby Diamond

This is that one great week of the year when there is absolutely nothing going on. No community meetings, the LA City Council is on recess, and so many people are out of town. Enjoy! About the most exciting news this week has been the abandonment of a couple of young horses in the Wash. Fortunately, there was a happy ending as the yearlings have been rescued and are now safe & sound.

Next week, the FBCSP Workshops Committee will resume planning the series of workshops scheduled to begin in February of  2012. These workshops will explore the history, intent, and flaws of the FBCSP ( aka the Specific Plan) and look for ways to safely improve it. The committee has recently had the first workshops approved by the STNC . The committee members are Cindy Cleghorn, Chair; Joe Barrett, STA; Sonia Tatulian, ST Chamber, Nina Royal, Safety Committee; Jon von Gunten, Stakeholder; Jim McGlynn, Stakeholder; and Jackie Sanders, Stakeholder.

Our former Council woman, present City Controller, and now candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles, Wendy Greuel, will be holding a series of Town Hall Meetings beginning in January of next year. The focus will be a review of City Finances and the results of the numerous audits Wendy has conducted. here’s the full invitation;

December 27, 2011
Dear Friends:

As City Controller, my mission as the taxpayers’ watchdog is to increase governmental efficiency and save taxpayer money by improving operations, conducting financial and performance audits of all city departments, offices and programs, and monitoring and reporting on all matters relating to the City’s fiscal health.  During my time as Controller, I have conducted almost 50 audits and have discovered over $100 million in wasteful spending, fraudulent activity, and abuse of city resources .
I will be hosting a series of town hall meetings in the New Year to update Angelenos on the state of the City’s finances and recent audits so that I can hear, firsthand, from all of you  across the city about ways to improve our government.  These town hall meetings will provide an opportunity to express ideas on making Los Angeles operate more efficiently and to offer suggestions for potential future audit areas.

The first town hall meeting will be held on:

Wednesday, January 25, 2012
6:00 PM-8:00 PM
Encino Community Center
4935 Balboa Blvd., Encino, CA 91316

I hope that you can join me.  Please R.S.V.P. with your name and email address to Marisol Espinoza at marisol.espinoza@lacity.org .  Please feel free to forward this invitation to others who are interested in attending.

Wendy Greuel
City Controller
