A Note from Cindy Cleghorn

Dear Neighbors,
An appeal was filed by the Sunland-Tujunga Alliance regarding a proposed
metal recycling center to be placed along the sidewalk next to Caesar’s
Banquet Hall on the Chevron station lot.  The appeal calls out specific
reasons why this recycling center at that location is not good for the
community. A staff report was prepared by the City Planner recommending only that the Dept. of Transportation review their plans.

If you have an interest in this new use on that site, we encourage your
attendance at the public hearing which is scheduled for Thursday, May 5,
2011 at 4:30 p.m. in Van Nuys at the Marvin Braude Building or that you submit a comment letter to the commissioners.
The STNC’s Land Use Committee will also have any updates at their meeting on Monday, May 2.

–Cindy Cleghorn, Secretary
Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council

UPDATE: The applicant has asked for a continuance, so there will be  no hearing this Thursday.  The applicant, through a representative, is working with the STA to redesign the layout, and deal with landscaping concerns, so hopefully we will have a happy ending to this story. We’ll keep you posted.

Isn’t that the same location where all the illegal immigrants are allowed to loiter everyday as they look for work? Sometimes there will be 50 to 100 males at that location who are allowed to negatively impact the stores and the neighboring community..

    why is this allowed?
