CAFOS vs The City of Los Angeles

The Community Alliance for Open Space (CAFOS), of which the STA is a member,  has submitted their Writ of Mandate in their lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles. The lawsuit was filed after the illegal approval of a truck driving school at the former Lopez Canyon landfill.

The four major upcoming steps and their dates are:
1.   Petitioner’s Opening Brief – due on or before January 10, 2011. (now submitted)
2.   Respondents’ and Real Party’s Opposition Briefs -due on or before February 25, 2011.
3.   Petitioner’s Reply Brief -due on or before March 18, 2011.
4.   The court hearing is set for April 18, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in Department 86 of Los Angeles County Superior Court (111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles).
STEPS 1 THROUGH 3 ARE WRITTEN FILINGS BY THE ATTORNEYS- and are like a debate, done in writing:
Step  # 1 Petitioner’s Opening Brief is a written filing our attorney submits to the court by January 10th.
Step # 2 The Respondent’s/Real Party’s Brief is the City’s attorney’s written response to the court by February 25th regarding the January 10th brief.
Step # 3 Petitioner’s Reply Brief, is submitted to the court by our attorney by March 18th, responding to anything raised by the City’s attorney in the document filed February 25th
Step # 4 The court hearing is April 18th.

UPDATE (2/16/11)-The court has moved the Writ of Mandate Hearing from April 18, 2011 to May 12, 2011. Please mark your calendar accordingly.
