BIG SUNDAY Verdugo Hills Cemetery Clean-Up!

This weekend brings the annual citywide Big Sunday Volunteer Day and we are holding our own local clean-up at the Verdugo Hills Cemetery.
This historic and beautiful site has been hit hard with ashes from the station fire, the rains, and now has a bumper crop of weeds.

The STA has signed up the event with Big Sunday organizers so we’ll have t-shirts to give away and we are hoping CD2 will support our effort in some way.

Please be at the cemetery on Sunday, May 2nd at 9am if you want a t-shirt. If you want to hear a talk by noted author, historian, and cemetery caretaker Mary Lou Pozzo on the fascinating history related to the cemetery, be there no later than 9:25 am sharp! The event will run until 1pm so if you can’t come early please stop by later! We need your help for an hour or so.

We will have snacks and water on hand. You need to bring gloves, sunscreen, and garden tools (if you have them).

We also need more weed whackers! If you have one please bring it!

The Verdugo Hills Cemetery is located at 7000 Parsons Trail, Tujunga.
Here is a Map.

See you all Sunday!

UPDATE: Trader Joe’s is providing nutritional snacks!

  1. Just to clarify, this is the pioneer cemetary in Tujunga, formerly the Hills of Peace Cemetary. It is not associated with the Verdugo Hills Golf Course in any way.

  2. Big sunday is a great event! I loved every minute of it when I volunteered last year. If you are on the fence about joining up, Do it! you won’t regret it. If you need more info, you can check out there website here. See you there!

    Thank You All,

My father is buried there, I was there in the late 90’s and it was not a pretty site. A speacil THANK YOU to Mary Lou for your never ending work to preserve the site. The two times I have been there I haven’t been able to locate the marker for my fathers grave, anyone notice John B Petersen, died May 1967? He is buried next to Patsy Davenport according to the map I have (thanks Mary Lou)
I know its a longshot, but the weeds were 3′ tall last trip and searching was futile.

    Thanks Again to EVERYONE,

    John Petersen
