Recently we issued an Action Alert asking you to contact Cameron Smyth’s office regarding Lopez Canyon and the upcoming Valley Area Planning Commission Hearing (Thursday, April 15th).
You efforts paid off:
Thank you for your recent e-mails requesting Assemblyman Cameron Smyth’s assistance in opposing the proposed truck driving school by the City of Los Angeles at the Lopez Canyon Landfill.
I have contacted the state agency that oversees landfill closures and future land use, the Department of Recourses Recycling and Recovery, other wise known as Cal Recycle. As many of you are aware, Cal Recycle sent a letter to the City asking for information from the City and clarifying the steps needed for land fill closure and subsequent land use. The letter was sent from the department on March 16 and as of April 6, the department has not received a response from the City.
We will continue to monitor the situation very carefully on behalf of the state and our many constituents in the area. In addition, someone from the office will be in attendance at the April 15 hearing in Van Nuys. Thank you very much for your messages and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
