Former K-Mart Site Update

We went downtown today.

Abby & Joe from the STA, and Tomi Bowling, Chairperson of the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council Land Use Committee (STNC/LUC) met with Councilman Paul Krekorian and his staff to discuss the future of the former K-Mart site.

We talked about socks and underwear.

We spent over an hour and a half talking with Paul’s staff and planning deputies. We brought outlines, names, ideas, and community surveys. We discussed everything – the history of the K-Mart site, the No Home Depot Campaign, the structural alterations, even the Dispute Resolution fiasco was included. We focused on shopping. We focused on what the community wants and needs.

We’re talking results.

Councilmember Krekorian understands. His office will be able to take the lead and begin communications with the Home Depot folks, the College people, and the Target people.

We’re working on it.

Many thanks to everyone for your patience. We’ll keep you posted when we hear something. Be sure to check back here often for updates!

Joe, Abby and Tomi Lynn deserve major kudos for so effectively revisiting the K-Mart property issue with Paul Krekorian’s staff and continuing the efforts that so many from our community were involved in during the difficult No To Home Depot stage of this endeavor.

Let us all continue to remember the need for the whole community to be involved in building a better, community-centered use for this special, one-of-a-kind location on Foothill Blvd.

  6. I agree with Peter. This site is the only location in S-T able to support a major retail anchor. We can’t screw this up or else we’ll be shopping in Burbank forever.

  7. Absolutely NO NO NO Home Depot!!!!!!!!!!! Do not let them weasle their way in again by greasing political pockets….

And here we are in October 2010 with the site still empty. Will “they” ever move forward with this property?
