Mary Lou Pozzo, Ihave been trying to find my grandmothers grave, They say she is in Verdugo hills cemetery, but because of land slide it is closed to public. I am hopping to find someone who could take a picture of her head stone for me. Thank you for any help Susan

We would love to attend, but....
We attend church services on Sunday morning.

Perhaps in the future you might consider holding meetings in the early afternoon that do not coincide with church on Sunday mornings.

Thank you.

This project is such a really terrible 'development' that I was actually a little surprised to find that City Planning just rubber-stamped the business's plan. But shame on me; I should know better. This approval is just another example of City Planning's tendency to automatically approve practically any development project, along as the appropriate paperwork is filled out.

I sometime wonder if anyone in Planning actually thoroughly reads the paperwork and actively analyzing the facts and the applicable local and state law.

Sunland-Tujunga is so fortunate that a number of residents have had the drive, fortitude and perseverance to learn as much about the applicable Planning ordinances as City Planning staff (if not more) and are willing to be the watchdogs to alert the community about another "Planning' travesty in our midst.

Prior to Wendy Greuel's tenure, the Sunland-Tujunga area had been under served and mostly ignored by its representatives. Joel Wachs, in fact, even closed the local office. What assurance can you give us that you will serve our community and adhere to our concerns and wishes, putting us above your political aspirations?

What position will you be seeking after CD2 representative?

Question for Candidate Forum.

As made very clear by Laura Chick's Planning Audit and our own experiences, when it comes to the Planning Process - No One Is In Charge thus there is frequently no compliance of conditions laid out by the decision maker before permits or Certificates of Occupancy are issued. Until such time as the Planning Department defines a single Planning Manager for a Project to whom all Departments are accountable, can we depend on your Council Office to support us in our enforcement efforts and how will you do this?

These are my questions for the candidates.

Candidates, these are two simple, yes-or-no questions;
Have you read the Community plans for the cities in district 2,
And, will you do everything in your power to support them.

To all that is or is not involvved in the destruction of our beuatiful VERDUGO HILLS GOLF COURSE! Please, stop & think about our enviornment and how much the air quality will drop and by destroying the old and new oak trees you will also kill off animals because they will get trapt and will be chaced out where they don't have a place to call home! We are invading our GOD's given only land, the place to live! It's not like you and me where we could say ok I will get in my car and grab my things and move across town or state!

Please help our community to end this and avoid the destruction. We need to hold on to Historic Memories and what it stands for as well as what it does for the community.

Thanks,

Veroinca,
It's Joe. I'm Here! Wow you raise alot of questions. I'll try to answer some of them. The future of the K-Mart site is in discussion between at least 2 interested parties which include
Target and Mission College. We may have an answer in the next few weeks which we will report here. A brief summary of the talks is that Mission College would like to buy the site and share it with Target. Target would like to lease the entire site for themselves. In the meantime Home Depot wants an arm and a leg for the lease, so everyone is in negotiations. We are not privy to what these discussions are leading to, we just know that they are occurring.

The Commerce Center is nearly complete but I have no info on any potential stores.

The Homeless problem is a societal issue and not one that the STA would or has time to take on.

The STA (and the STNC) is currently dealing with a Used Car lot trying to go in where the Coffee Stop used to be.
There are only so many of us and only so much time. Smoke shops seem to be legal so I don't know what we can do about that at this point.

The Pyschic Sign is being handled by the STNC. The owners have been ordered to remove it and are refusing.
It looks like they will be have to answer why before a judge pretty soon.

And yes, fighting the Golf Course developers is taking almost all of our time.

what is the update on the Kmart site? It would be nice to see some of these topics addressed on this site or just a comment like still in process so it doesnt appear nothing is happening.
I see the shopping park on Cornor of Commerce is all out for lease. Does anyone have any updates if there is anyone interested in leasing any of the space and general idea what offers have been made
Yes understand the economy is bad right now. Also notice more homeless people moving into the park and more digging through the neighborhood trashcans on Monday mornings. Is anything being done to address the problem or are we becoming a dumping ground for neighboring citys that have chased them out? Have any of our churchs offered their assitance to the community to help these peole out and into places that are tailored to their needs and requirements rather then sleeping in our backyards and begging for money outside shops etc
Then almost every cornor some store is selling smoking items pipes cigars etc
When most cities are putting no smoking in their communities we seem to be embracing it and giving out permits for these stores to do that or they are just doing that without asking like the house in Shadow Hills with the sign advertising in the backyard Physic Readings. Must be a oversight from LA again and its still there
its sad because we have so many young families in this community and these little things make it hard to be proud of our town. How could we ever get well known stores to want to come here. I spoke to a Rep from trader Joes and they laughed at us saying its not a town they want to be in basically because of all the above
or are we so caught up in fighting the developers on the Golf course (although this is important too) no one has noticed these things taking hold in our neighborhoods
Please tell me all is being address. Joe where are you?

or are we so caught up in fighting the developers on the Golf course (although this is important too) no one has noticed these things taking hold in our neighborhoods
Please tell me all is being address. Joe where are you?

Sure, it's pretty, but have you tried to drive on it? The left lane going Eastbound is one long pothole! No wonder they were under budget... they didn't finish.

Thanks for the explanation. I drove that way today and did
not understand the" Leaving Tujunga" sign, Because I returned by a different route I had missed the "Welcome to Tujunga" sign. I agree that it is a great use and thank the person who did the signs. The car has been there so long that I am surprised the Taggers have not defaced it or that it has not been dismantled before now.

I was so glad when the lot was cleared of all of the weeds.
The person on the mower was good to be able to clear the weeds right up next to the vehicle. A carelessly tossed
cigarette would easily have started a big fire.

I would like very much to visit my sister's grave. Hers was one of the graves which were uprooted and relocated due to the landslides in 1979. Her name is Anna Risola. She was interred in 1967. If there is any information on this, please let me know. I live in Phoenix and will be in California over the 4th of July weekend. I'm 82 now, and would like to put my mind at ease that she has a suitable resting place. Thank you for any help you might be able to afford me.
Sincerely,
Fred Wirth

I agree, Abby, Sunday's CEQA Workshop was excellent. I think it was Mike O'Gara from the Sun Valley Neighborhood Council who summed it up best. At the end of the day after the applause had died down, Mike shared with Doug and the group that of all the various workshops he has attended this was by far the best.

Creekhiker, I am very concerned about Margret as well. She is a difficult case and I'm not sure how this is going to work for her. I do know that she seems to be deteriorating fast and I can't see how continuing to sleep on open ground night after night can be beneficial to her well being. I was at her camp today and it appears that it was cleaned up a bit by the LAPD/CD2/ANGC team. Her camp has always been the most disorderly. This is a dear sweet woman that needs help. I am just not sure what is going to work. -Joe

I must say I have very mixed feelings about this. I often wander out there as the sun is going down and stay past dark, enjoying the sound of the creek and nature. I feel like my sanity is being taken away.

I also worry about the one homeless resident who has called that area home for over 30 years. They have "placed" her before and she always comes back. I don't feel she is of the mental capacity to understand what is happening.

The homeless population of this area has exploded in the last year. One would think that if these folks had other options, they would have used them. I really have to question the quality and level of the "services" offered.

Wow!! What a big improvement. I remember playing in there when I was little. By the way, if there is room up there...I have a tree that may need a home someday. I am trying to keep it alive in a pot for as long as I can, but someday it will out grow it. It is a Giant Sequia tree and would look great up there. Not only looking great, it is our state tree. The size that it is now, it is very expensive and won't be a monster tree for more then a 1,000 years.

Mary Lou and I would like to thank all the people who joined us this weekend to clean-up the cemetery. Everyone's little part contributed to a whopping 57 bags of stuff which was picked up by the City on Monday, May 4, 2009. A big THANK YOU!

What do we do about the irresponsible homeowners aka "keepers" of the Oak trees who do not trim or shape them?

My neighbors haven't shaped or thinned out the branches in years. The tree is suffering as it's "thatched" (for lack of a better term). Who can educate them and force them to trim their tree which overhangs the property line and loses branches with each windstorm as the thatch doesn't allow the air to flow through?

The tree is so messy they refuse to park their cars in front of their own home (as the tree covers 1/2 the street) and they insist on parking in front of all the other houses in the neighborhood due to the mess of their mighty messy oak.

Robin,
We are being told by Nina that the Owens street predators are long gone. The Megan's Law website has not been updated to reflect that yet.

mg -
The offenders weren't out of compliance. It was the State who approved the use of the house for a group home, and the community opposed it. After we had the meeting the other night, the offenders were removed immediately the next day.

No one was slacking on the job. In fact, we had a fantastic response from LAPD, including our Senior Lead Officer, Larry Martinez. The 2 LAPD agents who attended the meeting the other night were Detective Diane Webb and Detective Lauren Rauch, both from the Registration Enforcement and Compliance Team (REACT). They answered many questions and took a lot of heat from the community. Also, phone calls were made to various agencies by Dale Thrush from CD2, and Nina Royal of the STNC.

The State took swift action in response and we are very pleased about that.

So once again the parole unit that covers these sex offenders failed to comply with policy. Who will be accountable for this. Also, someone should check to see how much overtime was issued out to those agents that should have been monitoring these offenders and fire the supervisor.

Every Business and Homeowner needs to be appreciative of STA and all of the dedicated people who are giving back to their community, no matter what magnitude, little or small, you are all Heroes.

I am deeply envious of STA, and disappointed that we in Arleta have been unsuccessful of forming a local alliance.

What better result could we have asked for---a speedy and peaceful resolution to a untolerable situation brought about through community solidarity.

This is truly good news. Now, what about the house full of sex offenders on Owens Street in 7 Hills? Though this house is not illegally close to schools the men walk around the neighborhood and there are three schools in close proximity to that location.
